Willy Wonka Jr. Takes to The Stage
By Britney Felix and Julia Kudewicz
Did you see the play filled with 'drama'? This year's play at Washington Middle School was Willy Wonka Jr., was great! Performing on three different days, Thursday, May 17th, Friday, May 18th, 6:30 PM., and Saturday, May 19th, at 2:00 PM, the students involved in the play made a big time commitment and stayed after school for two hours several times a week. The play has about 50 participants, with a stage crew of about ten people. The main characters were Willy Wonka played by Jamilee Saren, seventh grade, and Bryan Brazil, sixth grade, as Charile Bucket.
Although, Mrs. Mendes has never seen the production of Willy Wonka Jr., she saw both movies and liked the older version better than the recent one. The reason why Mrs. Mendes said she picked this play for our school is because she thought it was a popular story that the kids would enjoy and be interested in. Out of 22 songs, Mrs. Mendes said, "My favorite songs are Cheer up, Charlie, and The Burping Song." There were also six dances in the play. Most of them were done by the Oompa loompas, the helpers of Willy Wonka in the Chocolate Factory.
Some of the other stars in this show were: Grampa Joe, played by Demetre Carnot; Augustus Gloop played by Spencer Trella; Veruca Salt played by Alexis Kochanawicz; Violet Beauregard played by Juliana Servetnick; and Mike Teavee played by Jeremy Szawerda.
